National Minimum Wage increases due Oct 2014
• Adult rate from £6.31 to £6.50 per hour
• 18 to 20 year olds rate from £5.03 to £5.13 per hour
• 16 to 17 year olds rate from £3.72 to £3.79 per hour
• Apprentice rate from £2.68 to £2.73 per hour
To be entitled to the national minimum wage, workers must be of school leaving age (the last Friday in June of the school year they turn 16) or over to get the minimum wage. Contracts for payments below the minimum wage are not legally binding and the worker is still entitled to the minimum wage.
Therefore as of 1st October 2014 you must ensure that all your employees that are currently on the minimum wage have their salary increased in line with the new rates, it is a criminal offense not to pay the national minimum wage for your eligible employees.
