Government Launches SSP (Statutory Sick Pay) Rebate Scheme
The government has said that from today, 26th May 2020, employers can now claim back any covid-19 related Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) incurred after 13th March 2020.
If employers had a PAYE payroll scheme that began prior to 28th February 2020, and less than 250 employees, then they would be eligible under the Coronavirus Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme (CSSPRS), with HMRC stating that employers would receive rebates within 6 working days.
This means that employers can reclaim up to 2 weeks’ SSP to employers who either had coronavirus, were self-isolating at home without the ability to work, or because they were considered high risk and requiring to shield themselves.
CSSPRS covers all contract types including agency works and zero-hours and employers are not required to provide a doctor’s note in order for their employer to make a claim.
