Ford justifies paying enhanced Maternity pay but not Paternity pay

Ford justifies paying their female employees an enhanced financial package when they are on maternity leave, but haven’t offered the same to dad’s whilst they are on paternity leave.

The employment tribunal have ruled that Ford’s reason for not offering their male staff members enhanced paternity pay accepted their evidence that its policies are part of a long-term plan to recruit and retain more women, who are under-represented in its workforce.

Ford provided the tribunal with proof of its reasoning for not enhancing additional paternity pay when additional paternity leave was introduced, as well as detailed statistical evidence supporting its case that it needed to increase female representation in its workforce.

It’s an interesting case that will see more of the light of day when the new shared parental leave regulations come into force later on in the year.  If you have any questions regarding the current and upcoming pay and leave arrangements for when your one of your employee’s has a baby, don’t hesitate to contact us.
