Fathers to be given the right to time off for ante natal classes

Fathers to be given the right to time off for ante natal classes

From 1st October 2014 fathers of children who are expected to be born on or after 5th April 2015 will be given the right to take time off work to attend ante natal appointments with mum.

This right will be limited to those who have or expect to have responsibility for the upbringing of the child and who are either the biological father of the child or are married to or are the partner of the child’s mother.

This new right extends to time off for 2 classes, at a maximum of 6 ½ hours per appointment and the time taken will be unpaid. It will be unlawful to dismiss an employee for taking time off under this right.
